First workshop so persons with dementia can keep cooking
Today the first workshop was held at the Montbau Social Space to teach persons participating in REMS (Programme to Boost and Stimulate Memory and Health) how to use the cookbook ”Cooking Memory. Recipes so we don’t lose it!”
This is a book created by the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation, the ACE Foundation and the Alícia Foundation targeted at people at the onset of dementia as a tool to help them keep cooking independently in their day-to-day lives with delicious, healthy, easy-to-prepare meals adapted to their needs.
The workkshop began with an explanation of how to use the cookbook, which is colour-coded into recipes for complete meals, first and second courses and desserts. After that, David Gil of the Alícia Foundation held a live demonstration showing how to make three simple dishes.
Finally, the individuals with dementia, organised into small groups, made a dish from the cookbook following the steps in the book, and later they were able to sample it.
Throughout the year, there are plans to hold one workshop in each of the Foundation’s 23 Social Spaces around Catalonia. In this way, all the participants in the Programme to Boost and Stimulate Memory and Health will learn how to use the cookbook and will be able to apply that knowledge in their daily lives.
