New cookbook “Cooking Memory. Recipes so we don’t lose it!”
The Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation, in conjunction with the ACE Foundation and the Alícia Foundation, has created a cookbook targeted at people at the onset of dementia as a tool to help them keep cooking independently in their day-to-day lives with delicious, healthy, easy-to-prepare meals adapted to their needs.
At the book launch at La Pedrera today, Dr Mercè Boada explained that the cookbook will allow users to eat better, and eating better is essential to good health and brain function. The event also featured show cooking by David Gil, the chef at the Alícia Foundation, who made dishes found in the cookbook.
Cookbook “Cooking Memory”
The cookbook presents a total of 24 recipes which can be made in three easy steps. First courses, second courses, complete meals and desserts with pictures; each first has a description of the ingredients and utensils needed, and then an explanation of how to make it and final tips. They are all presented with a design and style that guarantee that a person with more or less altered cognitive functions will be able to understand and follow them easily.
The different dishes are made with neuroprotective foods and are designed so that throughout the week the user can choose different combinations to ensure that their meals contains all the food groups needed to be healthy.
Plus, all the recipes included in the book have been adapted bearing in mind the food preferences of individuals with cognitive deterioration participating in the Programme to Boost and Stimulate Memory and Health (REMS) carried out in the Foundation's Social Spaces. Starting in May, workshops will be held in the Social Spaces so the participants in the Memory programme can learn how to use the cookbook.
The book costs €9.95 and will be for sale starting on the feast day of Saint George, 23 April, at the Laie and Abacus bookshops. Proceeds will be earmarked to the Foundation’s Programme to Boost and Stimulate Memory and Health (REMS).
