Liceu Big Band is one of the few stable groups of this kind in our country, and it allows us to enjoy the talent of future jazz stars. Students face the great challenge of transferring to the stage, with a professional staging, everything they have learned in the classroom. The band is directed by one of the most experienced big band arrangers in the country, Sergi Vergés. For this year’s edition we’re bringing back the funk hits of the 60s and 70s -Earth, Wind & Fire, Sly & The Family Stone, The Brecker Brothers, The Jackson Sisters- and adapting them for big band. The arrangements are the work of leading figures of the genre such as Bob Mintzer, Gordon Goodwin and Vince Mendoza, among others.
