Call intended for professionals and scientific-technological research institutions from around the world who are interested in hosting one or more students from the Youth & Science Programee to undertake a summer research internship in one of its laboratories.
The programme
The Youth & Science Programme is intended to promote scientific and technological vocations in the pre-university stage of young students with talent and interest for science. Each year, 50 10th-grade students out of more than 800 applications are selected to be part of the three-year program. The program is structured in three phases, which take place over three consecutive summers during which the selected students have the opportunity to experience first-hand science research, both at a local and at an international level.
The call
The Youth & Science Programme opens this call annually for professionals and scientific-technological research institutions from around the world who are interested in hosting one or more students from the programme to develop a summer research internship in one of its laboratories. The aim of the internship is that students join a real research team and environment with top-level professionals working in their field of interest.
Student profile
The students selected to participate in the Youth & Science Programme, in addition to having a Strong academic record, they also have talent, curiosity, and motivation for science. They show commitment and enthusiasm for research and a clear intention of pursuing a career in science. They also demonstrate a good level of English, both oral and written, being this the language of science.
Summer research internships proposed by professionals or institutions located in Spain are offered to students who are in the second year of the program and who have already completed 11th-grade. These students have already had their first research experience during in the MónNatura Pirineus Science Camp (Phase 1).
Summer research internships proposed by professionals or institutions located outside of Spain, i.e. abroad, are offered to students who are in the third year of the program and who have already completed 12th-grade. These students have more experience, as they have not only completed the MónNatura Pirineus Science Camp (Phase 1), but also have already worked in real research environments because they have also completed the Research Centre Stay (Phase 2) at a local scientific institution.
Submission of a proposal
To be able to host students of the program during a research summer internship the project proposal submitted much include:
- Name of the research centre (include a link to the institution’s website).
- Laboratory or research group from where the research stay is proposed.
- Internship starting and ending dates, in which the student/s could do the stay (period from two to four weeks, approximately).
- Number of students that could be hosted.
- Contact details of the researcher/s in charge of the project.
- Title of the project.
- Brief description of the research project (such as an abstract).
- Type of tasks performed by the student/s during the stay (experimental work, theoretical study, participation in conferences and/or debates, etc.).
- Knowledge acquired by the student/s at the end of the stay.
- Specific skills required by the student/s interested in the project or recommended readings (if applicable).
- Budget for the economic support of the students stay: the material to be used by the student/s, if necessary (maximum budget: 500€ per hosted student).
