What is Youth for Medicine?
It is a course aimed at 1st and 2nd year baccalaureate interested in degrees related to medicine. The main objective is for the students to get to know up close how to work in a hospital from assistance to research. They will be able to get a taste of how different diseases are diagnosed and treated, and what research is being carried out to better understand them and find more effective treatments to combat them.
The program consists of 15 theoretical/practical sessions on different Saturdays, which take place between the months of February 2026 and May 2027. In these sessions, the different services and specialties that exist within a hospital are discussed, based on the face-to-face visit to two main hospitals in Madrid; Gregorio Marañón Hospital, 12 de Octubre Hospital and La Paz Hospital.
Among others, students will treat different specialties: pediatrics, cardiology, internal Medicine or mental diseases. Moreover, they will learn the functions of different organs and will approach surgery.
How does the Youth for Medicine program work?
The Youth for Medicine program will host young people interested in the world of health and medicine, who will visit two main hospitals in Madrid; Gregorio Marañón Hospital, 12 de Octubre Hospital and La Paz Hospital.
Participants will form groups of 25-30 students. The formation of these smaller groups has been sought to be able to offer training of the highest quality, and to facilitate the visits to the different areas of the hospital centers.
Each group will attend 5 sessions in one hospital and the remaining 5 in the other, either consecutively or alternately. All the groups will carry out the same content and specialties, but during the entire course of the program they will not coincide with other groups in the same session. The groups will not change throughout the entire program.
Conditions for participation
Students interested in participating must submit a candidacy through the registration form.
From all the applications received, a selection process will be carried out.
Once selected to participate in the program, each student must pay 690 in concept of fee.
- Training of students by health professionals in different medical specialties participating in the program.
- Teaching material and material used in each of the sessions
- Insurance of accidents and civil responsibility.
Fee Reduction
La Fundación Catalunya La Pedrera promotes equal conditions for access to its program to all participants. It bases its selection processes on the qualities and interest of the applications, and facilitates the participation independently of the economic situation.
In this way, it offers reductions from the price to the candidates who can’t stand up to their pay.

This alliance makes it possible to expand the dissemination of the program and access, offering price reductions for the participants who need it and prevent the economic situation from being a barrier to access opportunities.

It is a public hospital of the Comunidad de Madrid, located in the north of Madrid. Since the inauguration of the General Hospital in July 1964, its physiognomy has changed and grown until it became the hospital complex we know today, made up of a network of 17 buildings and four large hospitals: the General Hospital, the Maternal Hospital, the Children's Hospital and the Traumatology and Rehabilitation Hospital. It also offers specialized healthcare to a large number of patients from all over Spain and other countries. The Hospital Carlos III and the Hospital Cantoblanco are included in the same group.
It is a public hospital belonging to the Madrid Health Service, which stands out for the high training and qualification of its professionals, for its teaching and research capacity and for its technological equipment, being a national and international reference in various specialties. The Gregorio Marañón General University Hospital is an organization with more than four hundred years of history in continuous evolution to adapt to the needs of our patients. It is currently made up of more than 7,500 professionals spread over a hospital complex with more than 20 buildings, including various healthcare centers as well as two specialty centers and many others of mental health.
The IdiPAZ Health Research Institute was born from the union between the La Paz University Hospital, the Autonomous University of Madrid, the Pedro Laín Entralgo Agency for Health Training, Research and Studies of the Community of Madrid and the Foundation for Biomedical Research of the Hospital La Paz University, which will be the managing body of the Institute.
Its main objective is the convergence between basic and clinical research in order to obtain groups that carry out quality translational biomedical research.
The Institute is formed by the Madrid Health Service (SERMAS), through the Gregorio Marañón University Hospital, which represents the basic nucleus of the Institute.
Research at the Gregorio Marañón General University Hospital is carried out in the context of the Health Research Institute of the Gregorio Marañón Hospital, which is conceived as a nucleus of multidisciplinary and translational biomedical research in which basic, clinical, epidemiological and in health services. The Institute's management body is the Foundation for Biomedical Research of the Gregorio Marañón Hospital. This is the Hospital's instrument for the promotion, management and development of research.
