  3. Piano, clarinet, countertenor and composition in the spotlight at the twentieth season of Musical Residencies at La Pedrera

This Sunday 15 September, the eighth season of the Musical Residencies at La Pedrera series begins; just like the previous season, it will feature a resident composer in addition to three resident musicians.

From a total of 38 candidates and 13 finalists, the musicians chosen to be the residents are pianist Albert Cano Smit, clarinetist Miquel Ramos and countertenor Víctor Jiménez, all of whom have diverse educational and professional backgrounds. They are all appreciated for their artistic talent, as well as their potential to forge a prominent career both at home and abroad, and particularly for what the Musical Residencies programme can contribute to their professional growth.

The composer chosen this season is Raquel García-Tomás. She is a talented young composer who has already garnered acclaim and has a promising career; she is known for the versatility of her compositions for different instruments and voice. The commission for her residency will include creating three pieces lasting between 5 and 10 minutes each, one for each resident this season. The first one will premiere at La Pedrera’s auditorium on Sunday 15 December, performed by the resident pianist Albert Cano.

This new feature was started last season as part of the improvement and growth in the Musical Residencies programme, which is in its eighth edition this year. Its goal is to reach all young musicians, not only performers, but also those who place their talent at the service of others. In this way, the activity makes it possible to discover more artists and enjoy appealing concerts featuring the talented musicians of this country.

Just like last season, the programme plans to offer one concert at La Pedrera the third Sunday of every month in the afternoon. Likewise, the series alternates residents, each of whom will feature in a different concert to offer audiences a season of concerts with varied, appealing programming.
