Yesterday, Thursday 6 March 2025, the Flora and Fauna Guide to the Serra de Collserola Natural Parkwas presented at La Pedrera Auditorium. The event, organised by the Serra de Collserola Natural Park Consortium and Cossetània Edicions, was held with the support of the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation and featured contributions from leading experts in biodiversity and environmental management.
The presentation was led by Miquel Rafa, Head of Sustainability and Territory at the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation, who highlighted the importance of the guide as a tool for bringing the natural richness of Collserola closer to the general public. He also emphasised that the Foundation is actively involved in projects aimed at managing wildfire risk through sustainable agroforestry models.
Jordi Ferré, Director of Cossetània Edicions, reaffirmed the publishing house’s commitment to promoting awareness of Catalonia’s natural heritage.
The authors of the guide – biologist Francesc Llimona and illustrator Toni Llobet – offered a detailed insight into the process of selecting and illustrating the 805 species of flora and fauna featured in the publication. Llimona remarked, “This presentation is a celebration of Collserola’s biodiversity – a biodiversity that’s right on our doorstep. We should be optimistic, because the Collserola Natural Park is widely known; the challenge now is to ensure it is truly valued.”
Raimon Roda, Managing Director of the Serra de Collserola Natural Park Consortium, underscored the uniqueness of this natural area, surrounded by one of the most densely populated metropolitan regions in the world, and the urgent need to preserve its biodiversity.
The guide – now available in bookshops and at the park’s information points – includes more than 1,000 illustrations, covering everything from mosses and lichens to the park’s most emblematic mammals. Each species is faithfully depicted to scale and accompanied by detailed information on its habitat, abundance and seasonal presence.
This publication is presented as an indispensable resource for naturalists, educators and anyone interested in discovering and appreciating the rich biodiversity of the Serra de Collserola.
