The MANS packaging wins twice at the Liderpack awards
The new biodegradable packaging by the MANS Social Cooperative, designed by the cooperative itself, won twice at the Liderpack awards, which recognised the packaging as the most innovative in the food category and in the packaging process category. In the 2019 edition, a total of 29 awards were conferred, but the MANS packaging was the only contestant to win two of these prestigious awards. MANS’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint across all areas involving the production and distribution of its organic products is thus recognised by these awards.
About the Liderpack awards
These awards have been sponsored by the Graphispack Association and the Hispack trade fair held at Fira de Barcelona since 1995, and they are the most important awards conferred in Spain in the field of packaging and point-of-sale advertising. The first award for the MANS packaging was in the category of best food packaging, and the second one was in the category of innovation in packaging processes and/or machinery.
About the MANS packaging
The MANS Social Cooperative, spearheaded by the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation, has developed the first biodegradable packaging for selling its organic fruit and vegetables in supermarkets and large retailers.
With this project, the cooperative wants to be on the cutting edge of the “zero waste” movement to reduce plastics and waste in this sector. More specifically, widespread use of the new MANS packaging would save more than 5 tonnes of plastic per year in supermarkets and large retailers where the cooperative’s products are sold.
The new MANS packaging is the most environmentally-friendly in two ways. Firstly because it uses biodegradable materials: a compostable and biodegradable tray and a mesh net that is primarily made of cotton. Second, because it uses very little material, weighing just 16 grams: 15 grams for the tray and 1 gram to the mesh.
MANS is committed to reducing its environmental footprint across all areas involving the production and distribution of its organic products. As a result of this commitment, the cooperative has conceptualised and developed the design for the new packaging for its organic products in collaboration with local companies, in order to continue to work towards making their products’ packaging even more sustainable.
