Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera and La Vanguardia promote the Vanguardia Science Award, an initiative now celebrating its fourteenth edition. The award’s main goal is to give visibility to women researchers and help reduce gender inequality in the scientific community, while maintaining its original purpose of supporting excellent research carried out in Spain.
This year, eligible candidates must have published their work between January 1 and December 31, 2024, with projects led by women as principal investigators or first authors, and with main affiliation to a research institution based in Spain. A selection committee made up of experts in research and science communication will choose eight finalists, evaluating scientific relevance and social impact. The finalists will be announced on May 25, 2025.
Readers of La Vanguardia will be able to vote for the projects they find most compelling via an online poll on the newspaper's website, open from May 25 to June 22. The three winning projects will be announced on June 29, 2025. The award-winning researchers will present their work at a public event during the award ceremony in autumn, held at La Pedrera, headquarters of Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera.
