The Catalunya La Pedrera Foundationhotel atMón Sant Benet has been awarded theBiosphereseal from the UNESCO Responsible Tourism Institute for its commitment to sustainability. This seal shows that the company or institution works towards responsible, sustainable tourism in its environment.
In this regard, being awarded this seal further strengthens the hotel’s commitment to responsible, eco-friendly management, good working conditions, popular culture, local residents and socio-economic development of Barcelona and its surroundings.
An internal team at the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation was in charge of overseeing the project in 2023 and ensuring implementation, compliance and liaising on the seal requirements. They also received personalised guidance from Barcelona Turisme.
Beyond the seal, the Foundation has varioussustainability products under way at Món Sant Benet: building a fish ladder on the Llobregat river just outside the space, preserving the riverside forest, the channel used for the turbine and irrigation, the organic gardens (seasonal km0 produce) and renewable energy from solar panels on the factory and hotel buildings.
Plus, one of the improvements planned for 2024 is to incorporate hydroelectric power from the waterfall into the energy mix at Món Sant Benet, bringing the facility up to 60% renewable energy (solar and hydroelectric).
