Today, registrations have opened for the Barcelona International Youth Science Challenge (BIYSC), organized by the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera. This is a unique program designed to inspire and foster scientific talent among pre-university students from around the world who are passionate about science and technology.
The BIYSC will take place from July 7 to 18, 2025, in Barcelona, a city with a globally renowned scientific ecosystem. a vibrant city with a globally recognized scientific ecosystem composed of top-ranked universities, research centers, and hospitals. The program offers participants the opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research in real settings, working hands-on with active researchers at leading institutions in Spain.
Dates and application process
First call: January 8 to February 18, 2025.
Second call: February 19 to April 4, 2025 (only for projects with available slots).
A diverse and inspiring scientific program
The BIYSC will feature more than 15 research projects covering areas such as:
Life Sciences: Multi-omics in leukemia research, planarian stem cells, neurobiology of trauma, synthetic biology, unravelling tumorigenesis, and molecular breeding.
Medicine: Surgery of the future, infectious diseases, and broadening medical expertise.
Physics: Astrophysics and cosmic rays, quantum cryptography, and quantum entanglement.
Mathematics: Advanced mathematics bridging fundamental theory and real-world applications.
Chemistry: Innovation in photochemistry and drug synthesis.
Engineering: Designing nanosatellites and acoustic engineering.
Additionally, students will have the opportunity to engage in lectures, debates, and networking sessions, as well as present their research projects during the closing ceremony, which will be held at La Pedrera - Casa Milà, the headquarters of the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
