Yesterday, Tuesday, May 6, the Auditorium of La Pedrera hosted the premiere of the documentary "Sean Scully. Behind the Painting" created by David Trueba, on the occasion of the exhibition organized by the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera.
The 30-minute film, produced by the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera, enters Sean Scully's studio in London, where the artist works on his latest works and reflects on his artistic career. In addition, it also follows the preparation of Scully's exhibition at La Pedrera, including conversations with the curator, Javier Molins, which detail the process of organizing an exhibition in such an emblematic space as the main floor of Gaudí's building.
After the presentation and viewing of the documentary, a conversation about the exhibition took place between David Trueba and Javier Molins, curator of the exhibition, moderated by journalist Laura Sangrà.
The film director highlighted that Scully had been very generous in letting him into his studio and that the aim of the piece is for people to have a deeper experience of the artist and that it will last beyond the exhibition at La Pedrera. The curator, Javier Molins, stated that the film reflects very well what Scully is like, a tough person who maintains a "fight" with the painting, and that he makes very interesting reflections on art.
Both stated that culture and art are losing their place and that it has a great transformative capacity.
The audiovisual can be seen in the exhibition hall of La Pedrera throughout the exhibition, which ends on July 6, 2025.
The Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera works on a line of self-produced audiovisual projects linked to the exhibitions. These documentaries are an enriching testimony in which art, creation, reflection and dialogue with the architecture of La Pedrera come together with the aim of expanding the exhibition experience, extending it over time, deepening knowledge of the artist and his work, and connecting with a wider audience.
