On Monday 12 February, the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation hosted the presentation of an IDEES issue dedicated to quantum physics and its transcendental impact on contemporary society. The presentation featured Ignacio Cirac, the world’s foremost expert in quantum computation, who the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation collaborates with actively through the Ignacio Cirac-Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation Chair at the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO). With this initiative, the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation aims to help attract international talent to the country in quantum information theory research, the field led by Ignacio Cirac, director of the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics in Garching (Germany).
The presentation of the special issue was moderated by physicist and philosopherAlbert Solé, a Serra Húnter lecturer in the Philosophy Department at the University of Barcelona, and featuredSonia Fernández-Vidal, a physicist, writer and science communicator known for her literary work that explores the connections between physics and the humanities.
During the event, they posed and answered questions such as: “What is quantum physics” and “How is it related to philosophy, art, literature, communication, geopolitics, cybersecurity and global governance?” and guided reflections through this unique event, exploring the depths of quantum theory and its repercussions in the modern world.
