The Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation and the Cultural Observatory of Gender launch the María Luz Morales journalism award in collaboration with the newspaper Diari Ara. The journalist worked as chief editorial officer at La Vanguardia until February 1937, and was the first woman to run a general newspaper.

The award, which is being held for the third year, is named after the journalist, and is awarded for already published journalistic works that address women's empowerment and feminism in any shape or form.

Journalistic articles published during 2018 in any of the languages of the Spanish state are eligible for the award. The jury will choose the first and second prize articles, awarding them with €2,000 and €1,000, respectively. Submissions will be judged by Marina Subirats, Esther Vera (director of Diari Ara), Marga Viza (director of culture at the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation), Mavi Carrasco (president of the ADPC, Association of Women Journalists), M. Àngels Cabré and journalists Ariadna Oltra and Lluís Reales.

Articles can be submitted until 21 June and the awards ceremony will take place on 8 July, 2019 at La Pedrera. You can consult the full regulations governing competition entries here.
