‘Barceló. We are all Greeks' closed its doors yesterday with nearly 40,000 visitors
Miquel Barceló's exhibition at La Pedrera, one of the most outstanding creators of the contemporary art scene, closed its doors yesterday. Barcelona. We are all Greeks' was organized by the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation and could be visited between March 8 and June 30.
Marta Lacambra, general director of the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera, explains: "Our commitment to creating exhibition experiences of great artists is a reflection of the firm commitment of the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera to bring art to everyone. Over the last few months, this exhibition has been a clear example of this commitment, and it joins the previous ones with outstanding figures such as Jaume Plensa and Antonio López. With these initiatives, we reaffirm our desire to bring art and culture closer to everyone, thus contributing to enriching the cultural fabric of our society. In addition, the Foundation and La Pedrera position themselves as a point of reference for high-level exhibitions."
The exhibition was visited by nearly 40,000 visitors and all the activities of the expanded exhibition sold out their places.
Painter, sculptor and draftsman, Miquel Barceló started creating with clay in 1994 after a stay in Mali during which a strong wind prevented him from painting and drawing, as it covered his work with dust. This led him to experiment with this new material, which greatly influenced him and affected central aspects of his work. Barceló's ceramics are like an extension of his painting.
The exhibition at La Pedrera has been organized chronologically and traced a route through Barceló's artistic trajectory over three decades of work, from the first African works, from 1994, to the most recent production. The exhibition, with almost eighty pieces, has been supplemented with more than fifteen paintings and some notebooks related to ceramics, in addition to a bronze sculpture that occupied the courtyard of Passeig de Gràcia in La Pedrera.
