300 young Catalans with a special talent for science have started a unique adventure today in Món Sant Benet as participants in the 8th edition of the Crazy about Science programme, which is run with support from the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation.
The initiative aims to encourage scientific vocations among 1st and 2nd year baccalaureate students in Catalonia by allowing them to deepen their knowledge of scientific theory and techniques in a number of different fields. A total of 12 courses are available in conjunction with research centres and internationally-renowned institutions, where students have the opportunity to work with pioneering researchers.
The inaugural ceremony was held today in Món Sant Benet, led by Eric Matamoros, who took part in the 2016 Crazy about Science programme on the Biomedicine course at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona). The event welcomed 300 new students to the programme; it featured testimonials from former participants in the initiative and introduced the coordinators of some of the different programmes.
The event also introduced the new Earth Sciences course, which joins the range of topics from existing courses.
