285 students receive school and university scholarships from the Foundation
Between today and tomorrow, the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation is awarding diplomas to the 285 students who have participated in the school and university scholarship programme in academic year 2018-19.
These students have been able to enhance their education thanks to the assistance provided by the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation. The programme, which reached its 17th edition this year, is possible thanks to the efforts and cooperation of the different social organisations that work in some of the most disadvantaged neighbourhoods and towns in Catalonia.
This year 270 school scholarships and 15 university scholarships were awarded to students who had already participated in the programme. This offers them the chance to access and finish their university degrees. Two of the scholarship recipients are finishing their degrees this year.
Over these years, the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation has awarded, 3,538 school scholarships (since 2002) averaging 1,350 euros in value, and 35 university scholarships (since 2006), worth 2,500 euros each.
The average age of the school scholarship recipients is 14, although the programme caters to children aged 10 to 19. By gender, 59% of the recipients are boys and 41% are girls. On the other hand, the average age of the university scholarship recipients is 19.6, and it is noteworthy that they have participated in the Foundation's scholarship programme an average of 7.5 years.
The awards ceremony was held in La Pedrera’s auditorium and guests were welcomed by Marta Lacambra, general director of the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation, followed with speeches by Prabhpreet Kaur Lal, a university student currently on scholarship from the Centre Obert Joan Salvador Gavina Foundation, and Olga Gallès and Fina Pérez from the Casal dels Infants per a l’Acció Social als Barris team.
The diplomas were awarded by Lluís Farrés, director of the Knowledge and Research Area of the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation, who congratulated all the winners and their families for having achieved their educational goals that academic year.
