Forests of Can Roca Els Blaus

With Montserrat as the background and on the edge of the Sierra de Rubió, we find this small area of typically Mediterranean landscape. Forests of white pine and ancient olive and carob cultivations surround the main value of this reserve: its geological heritage.

Wildlife

Genet

(Genetta genetta)
A small carnivore of African origin, which is already part of our Mediterranean fauna. The long tail provides stability for large jumps, with which it catches prey: birds, rodents and other small vertebrates.

Tawny Owl

(Strix aluco)
A nocturnal forest raptor that usually goes unnoticed except for its mysterious, nocturnal song. The head is large and round, without "ears".

Flora and vegetation

Carob tree

(Ceratonia siliqua)
Tree 15 m high and evergreen foliage. The leaves are pinnate, dark green in colour and it has small, red flowers. The fruit, the carob, is a dark brown pod 10 to 30 cm long. The seeds are oval, flattened, edible, and used as feed for livestock

Rosemary

(Rosmarinus officinalis)
Aromatic plants play a key role in Mediterranean vegetation. Traditionally used for their properties, aromatics play a key role in the ecosystem.
