Món Sant Benet is hosting a Live Nativity Scene for the second year, with more dates, scenes and characters.
More than 3,000 came to see the 1st edition of the Live Nativity Scene at Món Sant Benet last year. A 21st century nativity scene inside a 10th century monastery. This year, on 21, 22, 26, 28 and 29 December, the nativity scene will be put on for the second year. After the success of the first year, it has grown in dates and now incorporates new scenes and characters. In fact, this year's edition has already sold about half of all the available tickets.
The Live Nativity Scene at Món Sant Benet aims to offer an ambitious and atypical nativity scene that combines classic nativity scenes represented by around a hundred actors with state-of-the-art effects such as video projections. This year, for example, one of the new features includes mapping the front of the church, in what will be one of the most magical scenes of the event.
Apart from the recreation of the traditional nativity scenes (birth, announcement, adoration, etc.), the Món Sant Benet nativity scene includes a number of scenes from the Middle Ages, ranging from the monastic life that took place within the walls of the monastery to the recreation, this year, of other characters who lived outside religious life, like witches and vagabonds.
The nativity scene, which has been months in the making, counts on artistic direction from the actress Tàtels Pérez, who has, once again, taken on the challenge of moving a classic living nativity scene to a typical setting from the medieval period. In fact, the Live Nativity scene at Món Sant Benet is the only one in Catalonia that takes place entirely within a monastery.
A nativity scene that grows and renews itself
A truly medieval live nativity scene. The Live Nativity Scene at Món Sant Benet is a unique and atypical sensory experience that brings visitors back to another age through all the senses: sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell, playing with different scents along the route.
The nativity scene was started last year with the aim of escaping from a traditional nativity scene. This year, it will uphold its goal by rethinking scenes and incorporating new elements that make the experience even more lived and unforgettable. Large-scale projections, smells, a historical setting, interaction with the actors, an incomparable backdrop and the unique character of a living nativity scene set in the monastic period, all make it an unmissable event.
This year, the nativity scene is growing in terms of dates: 5 days of nativity scene with 4 daily sessions, surprising visitors with new scenes and characters, while reworking scenes from the previous edition, such as, for example, the 3 wise men and the cavalry scene, located in the Montserrat gardens, where there is a dreamlike world with a scene including an owl and a horse accompanied by two knights, who this year will perform a small falconry show.
A project with its roots in the local area
One of the most beautiful aspects of the initiative is the involvement of institutions and entities in the region that strongly link the nativity scene to the local people and region Many participants are coming back, and there are also new additions to make this second edition great. The nativity scene counts on support from associations such as MIJAC, the Parish of Sant Fruitós and groups such as the Folck Dance Studio, a group with a long history in the world of traditional dance that has been commissioned to give life to one of the new Nativity scenes located outside the monastery.
.
Institutions, including the Museum of Sant Fruitós, and individuals, including Josep Iglesias del Mas Brucardes, have donated historic pieces to help decorate the nativity scene. The nativity scene also counts on the involvement of families and individuals who want to be part of the initiative.
In its second year, the nativity scene is now part of the Coordinator of Nativity Scenes of Catalonia, which brings together most of the live nativity scenes in the region.
The second edition of the nativity scene will be held on December 21, 22, 26, 28 and 29, and 4 daily sessions have been scheduled at the following times: 6 pm, 6:45 pm, 7:30 pm and 8:15 pm.
