Ignacio Cirac Catalonia La Pedrera Foundation Chair
The goal of the Ignacio Cirac - Catalonia La Pedrera Foundation Chair is to increase Catalonia’s capacity to attract international talent and to help place Catalonia's quantum information research groups among the world leaders.
What is the Ignacio Cirac - Catalonia La Pedrera Foundation Chair?
The Ignacio Cirac - Catalonia La Pedrera Foundation Chair at the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO) aims to attract international talent in the field of quantum information theory research. This is the area of research of Juan Ignacio Cirac, director of the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics in Garching, winner of the 2006 Prince of Asturias Award and holder of an honorary doctoral degree from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC).
The new Chair will allow the following:
To increase the capacity for attracting international talent to Catalonia.
To contribute to bringing Catalonia's quantum information research groups forward as world leaders.
To strengthen the stable, solid and visible link between Professor Ignacio Cirac and Catalonia
To carry out activities to promote excellence and awareness of leading science and technology projects among young people
The chair is based at ICFO, a research centre founded by the Government of Catalonia, and the UPC, which aims to carry out research and training in the field of optical and light sciences at the highest level, and which is the university responsible for this Chair.
